Ken Moreland is a third generation piano technician. His grandfather, Benjamin L. Moreland was a mechanic in the 1930s who went to work at the Stieff Piano Factory in Baltimore City. After some years there, he went to western Maryland and set up business as a piano technician.
Ken’s father, Robert W. Moreland took over for his father Benjamin when he passed away and worked as a piano technician until 1990. He served the profession for 41 years.
Ken taught instrumental music for 31 years in the Baltimore County Public School system. Although he worked part-time and summers to help his father Robert while teaching, it wasn’t until his retirement from teaching in 1993 that he became a full-time technician.
